“BEG BORROW AND STEAL”

Music Video and early German Television homage for Eddie 9V

My friend, the inimitable Eddie 9v and his badass band asked me to direct the video for the new single of his sophomore record Capricorn. For Beg Borrow and Steal, we created a devoted homage to the German Television channel Das Erste’s music program from the 60s and 70s’: Beat Club, a show Eddie grew up watching (and me too). To say we had a gas making this, is a vast understatement.

For the look and feel of the video, we went legit old school — DP Jordan Pilgrim even shooting in PAL. We keyed for blue with drapes. All of the zooms are in-camera. For the edit, I used delightfully obsolete effects and limited myself to only a few revisions — embracing the damn-the-torpedoes spirit of a live broadcast line-cut. The spontaneity shows through, capturing the ramshackle rock n roll spirit of the band who in the video looks like a cross between ayoung Booker T and the MGs and The Velvet Underground with Nico.
